How We Source Ingredients for Our Drinks Range

How We Source Ingredients for Our Drinks Range

At John Street Beverage, every product we supply starts with a simple question: where does it come from, and is it good enough? Since my father John first fell in love with coffee back in 1978, our family has built this business on one principle above all else. If it is not something we would be proud to serve ourselves, it does not go out to our customers.

Over the years, we have developed strong relationships with growers, roasters and producers across the globe. Here is a closer look at how we source the ingredients behind our drinks range and why quality will always come first.

It Starts at the Farm

Good coffee, good tea and good drinks of any kind begin with what goes into the ground and how it is looked after. That is why we only work with farms and estates that share our values when it comes to care, consistency and fair treatment of workers.

For our coffee, we source beans from countries including Brazil, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ethiopia and Papua New Guinea. Each origin brings something different to the cup. Brazilian beans tend to offer body and sweetness, while Ethiopian coffees often carry bright, fruity notes. By working with farms in several regions, we are able to create blends that are balanced and full of character.

We also make a point of supporting farms that hold recognised certifications. Whether it is Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance or Organic, these standards give us and our customers confidence that the product has been grown responsibly.

Building Relationships That Last

We are not the kind of company that hops from one supplier to the next chasing the lowest price. Our approach has always been to build long-term partnerships. When you work closely with the same growers year after year, you get a level of consistency and trust that simply cannot be achieved any other way.

This matters especially when it comes to our own Street & Co. range. When we developed this 100% Arabica blend back in 2015, we spent a great deal of time selecting the right combination of origins. We needed beans that would deliver a smooth mouth finish with rich toffee sweetness, honeyed notes and a soft citrus end. That kind of precision only comes from knowing your suppliers inside out.

Beyond Coffee

Our sourcing standards do not stop at coffee. We apply the same care to every product in our wholesale range. The teas we carry from Birchall are hand-picked from high-altitude estates in East Africa, grown in rich volcanic soil that gives the leaves their distinct vibrancy. Joe’s Tea is organic and Fairtrade, produced in small batches to keep quality high.

For soft drinks, we work with producers like Luscombe and Pip Organic, both of which are known for using real, natural ingredients without artificial additives. Even our sweet treats from Lizzies and The Fine Cookie Company are handmade with carefully chosen, all-natural ingredients.

Every brand we partner with has been selected because they meet the standard we set for ourselves over 40 years ago.

Quality Control and Freshness

Sourcing the right ingredients is only half the job. Keeping them fresh and consistent is just as important. We use the latest roasting, blending and packing facilities to make sure our coffees reach you at their best. Our beans are packed in smaller vacuum-sealed bags with one-way air valves, which locks in freshness and flavour from the moment they leave our facility.

For our private label customers, we hold cupping sessions where we walk through each blend in detail, explaining the tasting notes and helping them choose the right coffee for their business. Nothing leaves our hands until we are satisfied it is right.

A Promise from Our Family to Yours

We have been doing this for over four decades, and our commitment to sourcing has never wavered. Whether you are a café in Kent, a hotel in London or a pub group across the south of England, you can trust that every product from John Street Beverage has been sourced with care, knowledge and a genuine love for what we do.
