Selecting the right beans for your business, or even for yourself, is not a decision you should make without the right research. There are so many natural tastes in coffee, from sweet chocolate to zesty citrus. The roasting process also changes the taste profile, as the move from a light to dark roast impacts the levels of sweetness. Then there is the region and altitude from which the coffee has grown. And the type of bean, Arabica or Robusta. Do you opt for a 100% Arabica with a sweeter aromatic flavour, or a Robusta with its strong and punchy taste, or maybe a blend of the two? What of the harvesting? Do you choose a coffee crafted from different regions? Do you pick your favourite single origin?
And, once you have asked these questions, how does the taste alter from an espresso to when milk is added?
So many options to consider, but a real opportunity to differentiate yourself from other coffee shops.
It is well worth investigating which coffees are served at nearby cafes and bars and the range they offer, whilst taking the time to search and learn about the current trends before making your selection. You may also wish to think about sustainability, as well as the certification relating to the coffee and what that can tell you of the welfare of the farmers. And don’t forget to check about recyclable packaging.
